Accessibility
Built to be usable on your worst day
What we do
- Keyboard-first: every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a skip-to-content link.
- Screen-reader aware: landmarks and labels on every page; the chat is a live region so new messages are announced; status messages (searching, partner joined/left) are announced politely.
- Reduced motion: if your system requests reduced motion, animations — including the breathing circle — are disabled.
- Contrast: body text meets WCAG AA contrast on our warm paper background.
- Touch targets: buttons and chips are at least 44×44 px on mobile.
- No traps: dialogs close with Escape, focus moves into and returns from dialogs sensibly.
Known gaps
- Real-time chat interfaces are inherently hard for screen readers; we use live regions but haven't yet validated full flows with NVDA/VoiceOver users — feedback welcome.
- Some older article pages still use the previous visual theme while being migrated.
- The sliders in check-in have visible value readouts; we're improving their touch ergonomics.

If anything here blocks you, please open an issue in the GitHub repository describing what happened and what you use (browser, screen reader, platform). Accessibility fixes are treated as high-priority bugs.
